Goals for 2011

I guess you could call this my resolutions but I wanted to make a list of things I want to accomplish this year.

• Get a job
• Raise my GPA 
• Gain scholarships
• Apply for early admission
• Get a puppy/dog
• Get a belly button piercing

It's a short list but to me those are major things. Getting a job isn't easy. I'm going to try harder in 2011 to get a job so that I can pay for admission fees and my SAT and ACT tests. I also need to save money to either by a dog from my sister's neighbor for $600 or to get one from a shelter.
I'm turning eighteen this year so I thought I could get a belly button piercing just for the hell of it. I'll be old enough to vote and do whatever I want. My parents even told me that they wouldn't care as long as I don't get arrested so I'm free to do whatever.

The days before Christmas

I forgot what my winter breaks used to be like. It is so warm here! I went to the mall with my younger sister and females were in shorts and sandals! In Georgia, everyone is wearing jackets and boots. It was a major difference. I don't know why I was so surprised.. Maybe I'm getting used to Georgia? I refuse to believe that but anything is possible.

In the mean time, I've been helping my sister bleach her hair. She wants to dye her hair pink and purple.

My mom bought a dog and I've been playing with him. He's 5 months old and loves to be held.

My sister and I have been driving around and going to plazas. We also went to the mall to buy each other stuff. I bought her bleach and I asked her for a denman brush.

The Christmas Spirit

My new baby brother is home. He's so small and has a head of hair. Jojo loves playing with his hair! He has jaundice which is due to his liver being immature and not filtering bilirubin from his blood. His eyes have a yellow-ish tint. I hope he gets better. It's so cold outside and he has the sniffles already. Poor baby.

I won't get to see him or Jojo until next year (literally). Thankfully, my grandmother cared enough to buy me a plane ticket to Florida. My mother was going to leave me in Georgia. No offense but I really didn't want to spend my winter break here.

I just can't deal with the two. Plus, even though I was in Florida two weeks ago, the mood was depressing and I really didn't want to be there under those circumstances.

Natural hair update: Besides it being a whole month since I cut my hair, I styled my hair into a pomadour poof style. I think it's really cute. I used a tutorial from YouTube. I'm so happy that I was able to do it! It's super easy and quick to do.

My step mom gave birth yesterday, December 16th. His name is Jeremiah Landen B. I don't like the middle name only because he's a boy. That's generally a girl's name. Why would you ruin his life like that? Anyway, to me he looked super weird from the pictures I saw. He looks cute today. I need to give him a year to look like himself.

On another note, today was my last day of school so I'm happy. Happy holidays!

A month flew by

It's Monday and also it's kinda sorta been a month since I did my big chop (BC). I did it Monday, November 15 and it's December 13. It's really going to be my nappiversary on Wednesday, December 15. I never thought that I would cut my hair super short or grow out my afro-textured hair. I never really loved my hair because of braiding it. My mom wouldn't braid tight.. But everyone else like other family members or whoever my dad paid to do my hair, braided tight and hit me when I screamed. I would be in tears, literally. Now, I'm excited that I can do my own hair (besides braid).

Its my nationality so I shouldn’t be too shocked that they were shocked but when they say, “But you’re too light-skinned to be Haitian..” That’s when I’m like, “Whaa?” I didn’t know that Haitians had to be dark.. My family is pretty light-skinned so are they saying I’m not Haitian?

Just Another Day in the Life

I don't know what's up with school but I get extremely depressed when I'm on the bus. Maybe it's because I have AP Calculus for first period? That's one of my theories. I get this overwhelming feeling and I just don't want to talk or even be in the presence of others. Another theory I have is that it's 6AM. My circadian rhythm is trying to tell me to get back on schedule which won't happen til winter break; why is it taking so long? Sigh.

My mom told me that I'll be flying to Florida on Thursday morning so I'll miss two days of testing and review. I won't say that I regret it. I hope it's warmer in Florida than it is here. Low 30s and high 40s. I just hate it!

My favorite website is up again. It's been down for about 24 hours and I kept checking to see if it was up frequently, throughout the night and day. That's what you call an addiction. I think I might have to cancel my account once it's time to apply to college and scholarships. Yea, I think I'll just deactivate my twitter, facebook, tumblr, youtube, and not login to my IMs.

Life is harsh when you get easily distracted.

 Oh, by the way, I'm wearing a curly 'fro in those pictures. I'm just in love with the simplicity of my hair now. Just moisturize and go.

Introduction

Hey. My name is Dominique and I'm seventeen years old. I'm currently a Junior in high school right now and let me tell ya', it's stressful. I haven't even taken the SAT or ACT and all the schools I want to apply to require me to take those tests. Anyway, I aspire to be a psychiatrist. Ever read Flowers for Algernon? By Daniel Keyes? It's a must read. It inspired me to help others that didn't have a choice to be mentally "normal".

Background
I was born on Septemeber 23, 1993 in Miami, FL. I'm the oldest of seven kids and my parents are divorced. We're Haitian-American but I assume that we have some other ethnicity in us because we just don't look fully Black in my opinion.

I recently cut my hair on November 15, 2010 and to me it's a major change. I've had my hair relaxed ever since I was in elementary school and my hair has always been shoulder length or a little past it, but now, it's just about one to two inches long, and curly! My hair is actually really pretty natural. I just remember the pain that use to feel when they tried to braid my hair, that's the reason why my mom put the relaxer in my hair in the first place. My hair was always for the enjoyment of others. I never really cared for my hair, so I guess you could say that I'm starting over. I'm excited to see how long my hair can grow.

I plan to use this blog to organize my thoughts like your dreams do of the day. I always wanted to try blogging so this will be a cool experiment. Let's just hope I have something to blog about... Besides hair. Haha.
